The best value camera in Sony’s APS-C line and a genuinely excellent first interchangeable lens camera. You give up weather sealing and viewfinder quality, not image quality.

Our take
The same class-leading autofocus and 24MP sensor as pricier models, in a lighter, simpler body. If you want a proper camera on a budget, the A6100 is hard to argue with.
Very. Autofocus is quick and reliable enough that you can concentrate on composition, the automatic modes are competent, and it is light enough to actually carry. It also grows with you, because the lens range is enormous.
Mainly build and viewfinder. The A6400 is weather-resistant with a better viewfinder; the A6100 is lighter and cheaper. The sensor and core autofocus are closely comparable.
Yes — the screen flips up to face you. Be aware there is no in-body stabilisation, so handheld walking footage will be less steady than a dedicated vlogging camera like the ZV-1 II.
