A genuinely good camera at a genuinely low price, provided the fixed screen does not bother you. If you shoot through the viewfinder and mostly take photographs, it is a bargain.

Our take
Canon EOS R100 review: the cheapest way into Canon mirrorless
Canon stripped the RF system back to its essentials to hit a low price. The EOS R100 takes very good photographs — as long as you can live with a fixed screen.
What we like
- Very affordable entry into a modern mirrorless system
- Same 24MP APS-C image quality as pricier Canons
- Light and compact
- Straightforward for complete beginners
What to watch
- Fixed screen — no tilting or articulation
- Less capable autofocus than the R50
- No in-body stabilisation
- Limited video options
Quick answers
What is the difference between the EOS R100 and R50?
The R50 has a fully articulating touchscreen, better autofocus and stronger video features. The R100 keeps the same sensor but fixes the screen in place and simplifies the rest to reach a lower price.
Can you vlog with the EOS R100?
Not comfortably. The screen does not flip round, so you cannot see yourself while recording. For vlogging, the R50 or a dedicated vlogging camera makes far more sense.
Is the image quality good?
Yes — the 24MP APS-C sensor is the same class Canon uses in more expensive bodies, and Canon’s colour is excellent. Photographs are limited by your lens far more than by this camera.
