The best value big-zoom camera Panasonic makes. It needs daylight to look its best, but for wildlife, sport and holidays on a budget the reach is hard to argue with.

Our take
Panasonic Lumix FZ82D review: 60x zoom and 4K for not much money
A big-bodied bridge camera with an enormous zoom range, a viewfinder and 4K video. The FZ82D is the affordable way to photograph things a long way away.
What we like
- 60x zoom starting from a genuinely wide angle
- 4K video and 4K Photo mode
- Electronic viewfinder helps steady long shots
- Good value for the reach on offer
What to watch
- Small sensor — noisy in low light
- Slow lens at the long end
- Plastic build
- Autofocus struggles in dim conditions
Quick answers
How wide does the FZ82D go?
Unusually wide for a superzoom, which is genuinely useful — most cameras with this much reach start at a fairly narrow view, so you end up backing away indoors. This one handles landscapes and interiors as well as distant subjects.
Is it good for wildlife?
For a beginner, yes. The reach lets you fill the frame with birds and animals you could not otherwise photograph. In woodland or at dusk the small sensor and slow lens will limit you.
FZ82D or FZ2000?
The FZ2000 has a much larger sensor and far better video tools, at a much higher price. The FZ82D has more zoom for much less money. Choose on whether image quality or reach matters more.
