A camera for people who want to stop thinking about equipment. It cannot match Fujifilm’s interchangeable-lens bodies for outright quality, but it is far more likely to be in your pocket when something happens.

Our take

Fujifilm X-HF1 review: a premium compact with Fujifilm colour

A fixed-lens compact built around Fujifilm’s colour science, aimed at photographers who want a pocket camera that produces finished-looking images.

What we like

  • Fujifilm colour in a pocketable body
  • Simple, quick to shoot with
  • No lens decisions to make
  • Discreet for street and travel photography

What to watch

  • Fixed lens — no flexibility or upgrade path
  • Smaller sensor than the X-series interchangeable bodies
  • Limited in poor light
  • Compacts are priced against very capable phones

Quick answers

Who is the Fujifilm X-HF1 for?

People who want a proper camera that fits in a coat pocket and produces Fujifilm-looking files without any lens decisions. Street photographers, travellers and anyone who finds a system camera too much to carry daily.

Is a compact camera still worth buying over a phone?

It depends what you value. Phones win on convenience and computational tricks. A dedicated compact gives you a real lens, proper controls, a different rendering, and a device that is only a camera — which changes how deliberately you shoot.

Does it have film simulations?

Fujifilm’s colour science is the reason to consider it — that is the central appeal of the brand across its range. Check the exact modes with the retailer, as feature sets vary between models.
