The instant camera to buy if you want one that simply works. It is an iteration rather than a reinvention, so buy on price and colour — if the Mini 12 is cheaper, it is just as good.

Our take
Fujifilm Instax Mini 13 review: the default instant camera, tidied up
Fujifilm’s newest entry-level Instax refines a formula that already worked. Same film, same foolproof operation, fresh design — and it comes in a lot of colours.
What we like
- Effortless to use — no settings to get wrong
- Reliable automatic exposure with flash
- Wide choice of colours and film bundles
- Uses the widely stocked Instax Mini film
What to watch
- No manual control
- Prints are small at credit card size
- Film cost adds up quickly
- Little functional change over the Mini 12
Quick answers
What is the difference between the Instax Mini 12 and Mini 13?
Styling, minor handling refinements and colour options. The film, the print size and the fundamental picture quality are the same. Choose whichever is better priced or comes in the colour you want.
What film does the Instax Mini 13 use?
Standard Instax Mini film, the credit card-sized format sold almost everywhere. Bundles including 20 shots work out cheaper than buying camera and film separately — several appear in the comparison below.
Can you use it indoors?
Yes. The built-in flash fires automatically and the exposure system adjusts to suit, which is exactly the situation where cheap instant cameras usually fail.
